Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Volunteer?

Volunteers are the backbone of HAWC! Without them we could not accomplish many of our goals. Most of our programs outside of the animal shelter and the spay station are staffed completely with volunteer associates. We also use as many volunteers as we can in those two areas, and we feel that this is a huge factor in keeping down HAWC salaries.

There are many areas available for volunteers:
Petco adoption days (Every Sunday) Shelter cleaning Dog walking Fund Raising etc...

A decision to be a volunteer for HAWC should be well thought out and not an emotional one. In order to be a true help you must be able to say yes to the following questions, you must be reliable and honest about your available time. Our biggest problem with staffing is those who say they will help and cancel at the last minute. We understand that emergencies come up, but this should be the exception, not the norm.

Appropriate training is very important because this gives each volunteer an opportunity to represent HAWC in the community by being able to answer questions about policies, issues, or the animals that we're trying to help. It also helps volunteers answer questions that the public or potential adopters may have. Please answer the following questions carefully and let me know if you have what it takes to be a volunteer:

Do you really have the time to give?
Do you make it a habit to be punctual?
Do you take responsibility seriously?
If you must cancel plans or appointments, do you give reasonable advance notice?
Do you follow through on projects?
Do you get along and work well with others?

Are you strongly committed to the projects you are involved with?
Can you keep confidential information?
Can you adhere to policies and procedures in a (even though your opinions may be slightly different) while working with an organization?
Do you finish task that you have been assigned?
Would you be willing to receive training for a new job?
Do you know when to ask for support or direction?
Do you support the organization by promoting their policies throughout the community, even when your not on duty?

If you answered yes to all of these questions and can help please click HERE.
